Afternoon with Max

Posted in B-Litter on November 23rd, 2007 by Pete

On the way back from Thanksgiving Dinner in Allentown, we stopped in Harrisburg to visit Max and his owner Mike. Max is on his well on his way to becoming a hunting retriever. Mike is an avid waterfowl hunter and is training Max to retrieve his downed game. As shown in the pictures below, Max is a good size boy weighing in at 83 lbs.

Afternoon with Mogan

Posted in B-Litter on November 18th, 2007 by Pete

Time has just flown by this summer. It’s been many month since my last posting. Tink and Wendy are doing fine. This weekend we went to a PVGRC field training. Tink is almost ready for the WCX test. She complete her land triple with only one small problem. She rolled in the grass next to the second mark. After a correction she returned the bird and fetched the third bird without any problem. Wendy is showing to be very birdy, no trouble picking up and returning the bird. On a longer mark of 60+ yards she needs help locating the fallen bird. More work with the Bumber Boy should help.

On Sunday we visited Morgan, Neverland’s Blue Ridge Morgan (White Collar Puppy). He looks great, see pictures. He’s got a great coat, head and bone. I would estimate his weight at 75-80lbs and seem well adjusted to his home and family. He towers above Tink and is also quite larger than Wendy.

Fast Forward

Posted in B-Litter on June 16th, 2007 by Pete

Quite a bit of time has passed since my last posting. The male puppies have gone to their new homes and the company I work for during the day was acquired by a large corporation. However, everyone seems to be adjusting fine to both situations.

I kept the red female puppy and named her Neverland’s Bonnie Lass, call name “Wendy“. Look for her own page on the web site in the near future. She is now 12 weeks old and weighs 30 lbs. Wendy has a very different personality then Tink. She is very quiet, except at feeding time, and calm. She usually doesn’t jump up on me or another family member, but will sit in front and wait for your attention, incredible! She is trying to find her place in the pack and often challenges Tink for the favorite mat or takes over Tinks crate or chew treat. Wendy is almost house trained with only an occasional accident in the house and it is usually my fault that I don’t notice her signal to go outside. She sleeps most of the night with one trip outside at 1am and than wakes up around 4:30am for potty and breakfest.

Training is progressing steadily, with all the basic sit, down and stay commands well understood and executed. Feeding time is going well with both dogs sitting in front of their bowls waiting for the food until I give them the release command “Eat”. I’m not sure if Wendy understands or if she just waits for Tink to start eating. Retrieving is going great, Wendy will sit in front of me while I throw the soft bumper, releases on her name, and retrieves the bumper all the why back to me. She often pickups up the rope end to bring it back, but that’s fine for now. Positive reinforcement using verbal praise and treats is working well.

Puppies to Dogs

Posted in B-Litter on May 1st, 2007 by Pete

Three puppies are quite a bit more work than one. By the time I finish, each evening, cleaning, feeding, washing and playing with them, it’s usually 9-9:30pm. Just about time to go to sleep. Of course, each morning at 4:15-4:30 they’re calling for potty and breakfest. They are so… cute, however, its worth the work.

They are now 6 weeks old and I’ve taken many picture, but I am falling behind in downloading them off the cameras. Here are a few from last week at 5 weeks old.
